Tennis Parent Tuesday: Smarter Tournament Scheduling

Oct 12, 2025

For the past two weeks, I’ve been hosting a new live series called Tennis Parent Tuesday. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time—a weekly space where parents can learn what junior development looks like from the perspective of someone who lived in the trenches for over three decades and ask the kinds of questions that rarely get answered in quick sideline chats.

So far, no one’s joined me live yet, but that’s okay. The sessions have still been valuable—structured, thoughtful, and full of practical ideas that parents can use right away. The video is the full replay from Week 2, “Smarter Tournament Scheduling for Junior Development.” Most of it is me narrating a slide deck that explains how to design a tournament schedule that actually teaches—how to use competition as a developmental tool rather than a validation exercise.

If you watch, you’ll get a sense of what these live sessions look and feel like. They’re not performances; they’re conversations waiting to happen. My hope is that a few parents will start showing up live so we can make these discussions interactive—sharing experiences, challenges, and insights in real time.

This week’s topic is Mental Game Development: Building Competitive Resilience and Emotional Control. If you’d like to join the live conversation, just send me an email at [email protected] and I’ll share the Zoom link. Even one or two thoughtful voices would make all the difference.
