Why Post-Match Conversations Repeat Themselves

May 20, 2026

One of the reasons post-match conversations repeat themselves is that adults and players are often talking about two different versions of the same experience.

The adult is talking about the pattern they observed across time, while the player is trying to reconnect to moments that were processed one at a time under pressure and closed before they could fully organize into something coherent.

That’s why “I told them this already” so often fails to produce change. The issue usually isn’t whether the player heard the explanation. The issue is whether they can connect the explanation back to anything they can still access from inside the match itself.
